apl. Prof. Dr. Yvonne Stahl

Yvonne is from Germany and her main research interest is the molecular control of root stem cell maintenance. Roots are essential for higher plants, as they provide anchorage in the soil and access to water and nutrients. As plants need to continuously adapt their development and architecture upon external and internal cues, fundamental work on the source of all plant tissues and organs, the plant stem cells, is essential especially in view of the progressing anthropogenic climate change. Therefore, together with her team she is translating fundamental research from the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana to the crop Hordeum vulgare (barley) to decipher the underlying molecular control of root stem cell regulation to fortify plants against adverse climate conditions and ensure food security.
